In the useful software section many of the sites offer free versions (for non commercial use) of commercial more advanced products. even in this form the free versions can be very useful for the home user.

The differences between free and commercial products are not usually security issues.

Differences are usually found in the ease of use, extra features/automation and technical support. Being free, the sites can also get very busy particularly when a major update takes place.
